The Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (BEM FISIP) at Universitas Diponegoro is taking action to preserve the coastal shoreline by planting 1,000 mangrove seedlings. BEM FISIP, through its Community Service division, conducted the Mangrove for Future 2023 program, which involved the planting of 1,000 mangrove seedlings and a Beach Clean Up event held at Tirang Beach in Tambakrejo Village, Semarang City.

This activity was organized as a response to the growing concern about the erosion of coastal land and the recognition that mangroves play a pivotal role in minimizing such environmental damage.

Hence, this year’s program theme is “Mangroves for Life, Future in Our Hands.”

Mangrove for Future 2023 holds special significance compared to previous years as it was attended by Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M. Pol, Admin, the Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Diponegoro University, who was actively involved in the tree planting activities.

In his address, he emphasized that this event provides an exceptional opportunity for students to once again demonstrate their care for the environment and collectively safeguard Semarang City.

“Perhaps in the future, you may forget about the mangrove trees you planted, but I hope these trees will bring benefits to everyone in the years to come,” he stated.

Furthermore, this event was joined by David Farella Christhoper, the Tourism Ambassador of Indonesia 2023, along with 105 volunteers. These volunteers came not only from the FISIP students but also from various academic programs and faculties at Diponegoro University.

The Community Service division collaborated with the FISIP Undip Alumni Association (IKA FISIP), Djarum, and the Semarang Mangrove Center to successfully execute the tree planting event. The entire event proceeded smoothly with active participation from all parties.

Looking ahead, the Community Service division of BEM FISIP Undip remains committed to providing the best service and dedication to the community as a tangible expression of students’ love for their beloved homeland.
