The National Studium Generale with the topic “The Urgency of the Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) and the Sustainability of National Governance for the Good of the Nation and State” was held by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro, on September 15, 2023. The event aimed to provide an understanding of the government’s plan to relocate the national capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan, which had been approved by the government since 2022.

The relocation of the capital city has garnered significant attention as it is a response to the challenges of development that have long been concentrated on the island of Java, as well as an effort to improve the governance of the capital city’s region. Dr. Hendrar Prihadi, the Head of the National Public Procurement Agency (LKPP), served as the keynote speaker for this stadium generale.

The plan to relocate the capital is based on the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 3 of 2022 concerning the National Capital City, which was agreed upon by the DPR (The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia) and the President. The development vision of IKN, aimed at achieving Indonesia as an advanced nation by 2045, includes eight principles, such as consideration for natural conditions, the spirit of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” (Unity in Diversity), and efficiency through technology. These principles are implemented by all relevant parties in its execution, as explained by Ir. Bambang Susantono, MCP., MSCE., Ph.D., the Head of the Ibu Kota Nusantara Authority (IKN), and Dr. Ir. Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga, M.Eng.Sc., IPU., the Chairman of the Task Force for the Implementation of Ibu Kota Nusantara Infrastructure Development (IKN).

Despite the benefits of this plan, there are still concerns among the public regarding this project, including its source of financing, social and environmental impacts, the sustainability of public services, and the involvement of the local community. Prof. Hardi Warsono, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Diponegoro, also provided an academic perspective on these issues during the discussion.

This National Studium Generale was held in a hybrid format, both offline and online through the official YouTube account of FISIP Undip Official. This National Studium Generale is a crucial step in providing a deeper understanding of the national capital relocation project and its implications for Indonesia.
