“Aspects of research that have good value include contextual, following scientific research principles, not cornering any party or community group, beneficial for many parties as well as being objective and transparent,” said Yohan Wahyu (Researcher on Research and Development/R&D of Harian Kompas Jakarta) during the Guest Lecturer class on Polling and Public Opinion course held by the Department of Politics and Governance Studies, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro (10/5)

The event moderated by Dr. Nur Hidayat Sardini, S.Sos., M.Si (Head of the Department of Politics and Governance Studies, Fisip Undip) presented the theme of Research Methods of Polls, Surveys, Exit Poll, and Quick Counts.

Furthermore, Yohan Wahyu conveyed that the data collection method could be by mobile phone since it could help to get fast responses of the developing public issues, it was descriptive/explorative, households owning telephones (generally the upper middle class and information literate). In addition, direct/face-to-face interviews (relatively long, in-depth, revealing latent phenomena, explanation/causality, evaluation, predictive, and household/individual were from lower to upper class).

“While the characteristics of a good research questionnaire are clear and use of simple, concise, specific, answerable language, having relevance to the respondent, does not use negative sentences, avoiding the use of biased terminology, avoiding repetition questions, and does not lead respondents to certain answers,” he explained.
