SEMARANG – The Doctoral Program in Social Science (DIS) Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) declared to be ready to go-International after receiving an “A” Accreditation from BAN-PT (National Accreditation Board for Higher Education). The readiness of the administrators of the Doctoral program (S3) is included in the global level because of the support of at least six professors who actively teach and guide in the Study Program.

The Head of the Doctoral Program in Social Science mentioned the support of six professors which became an important asset; besides, those professors had a good international reputation. “We are optimistic to step towards the global level by start to receive the foreign student and become the administrators of the International scale activities, including the collaboration with various parties abroad,” Yuwanto said, Monday (16/11/2020).

Currently, there were six professors registered in the Doctoral Program of Social Science, namely Prof. Budi Setiyono Ph.D., Prof. Sudharto P. Hadi, Ph.D., Prof. Dr. Endang Larasati, Prof. Dr. Naili Farida, Prof. Nurdien H. Kistanto, Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. Ari Pradhanawati. Along with the Doctors and other lecturers in the Doctoral Program of Social Science, those Professors intensively accompanied the students, studied and conducted the research on various social problems in the realm of political science and business administration.

Indeed, he added, besides the higher achievement of the accreditation and the qualified professors, the study program also required support from the foreign lecturers as the guest lecturers; especially to broaden the academic horizons of the students and enhance the international networks. That last thing had been done by the Doctoral Program in Social Science. Full support was obtained from the funding and the institution at the faculty level, as well as in university-level where Undip had provided the international Office and Kantor Pemeringkatan (Rating Office) that run the facility function for the Doctoral Program of Social Science and other study programs in Undip.

Determination and optimism to enter the global level, Yowanto said, in line with the program launched by Undip under the leadership of the Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum, to become a world-leading research university (World Class University).

At a glance, referring to the past, the history of the DIS Study Program began with the issuance of a letter signed by the Director-General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture, Number: 94 / E / T / 2012 dated January 17th, 2012 which assigned Universitas Diponegoro to organize a Doctoral Program in Social Science (S3 ) on the Universitas Diponegoro. Furthermore, it was strengthened by the Decree of the Rector of Universitas Diponegoro Number: 555 / SK / UN / 2012 dated September 10th, 2012, the Doctoral Program in Social Science (DIS) FISIP Undip was established which had a concentration in political science studies and a concentration in business administration studies.

With two concentrations that were considered relevant to the needs, DIS Study Program wanted to be superior in the field of knowledge, research and solving creative, original and tested social problems for the benefit of mankind that are recognized both nationally and internationally. The DIS Study Program was also determined to develop new knowledge, technology and art in the field of social science through research that produces creative, original and tested work.

This study program also prepared its alumni to be able to solve social problems through an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary or transdisciplinary approach; as well as being able to lead, manage and develop the social research that is beneficial for the benefit of mankind.

According to Yuwanto, in the last three years, the trend of the number of students had increased by around 45% every year. “The interest of the students studying here has continued to increase rapidly in the last 2 years,” he said.

The students’ backgrounds for the DIS Program are also increasingly diverse. Initially dominated by the lecturers who took advanced studies, now various groups such as bureaucracy, regional heads, NGOs, journalists, businessmen, police and notaries have also joined as the students and doctoral candidates in the Doctoral Program of Social Science FISIP Undip.
