SEMARANG – the Head of the DPP (Central Leadership Council) of Undip Alumni Association (IKA) for the 2017-2022 period, Akhmad Muqowam, expressed his pride with the results achieved by Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings of 2022. The results of the latest survey on the best ready-to-work graduate-producing campuses, UNDIP occupied the first position in Indonesia. While in the previous survey, Universitas Diponegoro was in the third position.

The pride conveyed by Muqowam on behalf of the alumni was not without reason. He reminded that the emphasis on employability was to see the existence and quality of alumni in the world of work. “Because of that, of course, we as alumni are also very proud. It should be noted that one of the indicators in IKPN is employability. This is the context where the role of alumni is important,” said Akhmad Muqowam, Saturday (25/9/2021).

According to him, a few months ago, UNDIP’s employability was ranked 3rd among universities in Indonesia. This time, its ranking rose to 1st place. He emphasized that this achievement was the result of the collaborative collective work of all Undip stakeholders, where alumni were in it.

This achievement also indicated that the lecturers, curriculum and students provided maximum performance in responding to the world of work, as an alumni service. “So this is a collaborative collective result. Bravo Undip, Bravo IKA Undip, Bravo Undip Alumni,” shouted this figure who had been active in politics for a long time.

The QS Graduate Employability Rankings had just released a ranking of universities which had succeeded in producing competent graduates with high job prospects or the best work-ready graduates. This time, in the QS Employability Rankings of 2022, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) was in the top position of all universities in Indonesia that were included in the assessment of the QS Employability Rankings of 2022.

In this ranking, there were only 8 universities in Indonesia that were included in the QS record in the ranking sequentially as follows: Universitas Diponegoro, Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Airlangga, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Gajah Mada, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya, Universitas Bina Nusantara, and Universitas Brawijaya. Meanwhile, in the world rankings, Undip and UI were in the 251-300 position; Unair, UGM and ITS were in 301 – 500 positions of the world rankings; while Binus and Unbraw were in the 500+ world position.

The QS Graduate Employability Rankings was a survey that used five indicators, namely Employer Reputation which was weighted 30%, Alumni Outcomes (25%), Partnership with Employers (25%), Employer Student Connections (10%), and Graduate Employment Rate (10%). To measure the employer reputation, QS made it based on data from nearly 75,000 responses to a survey conducted by the QS Employer Survey. This study was the largest survey in the world related to the readiness of university alumni to face the challenges of the world of work.

Regarding the alumni outcomes, QS analyzed 40,000 outstanding people around the world in the categories of the most innovative, creative, financially capable, successful entrepreneurs and philanthropists to find out which universities produced figures with these characteristics. QS also assessed the university’s ability to work with quality employers.

At the global level, the top ten positions were occupied by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a total score of 100; Stanford University (99.3), University of California Los Angles (99.1), University of Sydney (98.1), Harvard University (97.7), Tsinghua University (96.9), University of Oxford (96, 7), The University of Melbourne (94.5), Cornell University (94.4) and the University of Hong Kong (94.2)

Regarding this achievement, on various occasions, especially at the graduation ceremony, Undip’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama SH MHum, always emphasized the importance of the speed of Undip graduates on getting a job. Prof Yos Johan’s popular expression was that before the rooster crows, Undip graduates should have found work.

Previously, Undip’s position had always been in the top five from universities whose graduates were the quickest to get jobs, which was in less than six months. Prof. Yos Johan expressed his gratitude to all parties and the entire Undip family for these achievements and for supporting Undip’s progress towards a World Class University. “This is a reflection of the quality of Undip graduates who are getting better, easier to be absorbed in the workforce, and are globally competitive,” said Prof Yos as conveyed on the undip.ac.id website.
