On Friday, August 18, 2023, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) organized a tree planting activity as part of the series of Campus Life Introduction for New Students (PKKMB) and the Character Education Program (Pendikar) of UNDIP 2023. With the enthusiasm to involve new students in sustainability efforts and the embodiment of superior character, FISIP UNDIP chose to conduct this event as a way to emphasize the importance of environmental conservation.

Prof. Dr. Drs. Hardi Warsono, MT, the Dean of FISIP Undip, emphasized the significance of activities like this in raising awareness about environmental issues among students. “Through tree planting, we aim to inspire and foster an environmental consciousness among students. Each tree planted symbolizes our contribution to maintaining sustainability and enhancing the campus environment’s quality,” said Prof. Hardi Warsono.

This activity goes beyond symbolic tree planting; it also has long-term implications that support FISIP UNDIP in improving its ranking in the UI GreenMetric. In facing global environmental challenges, FISIP UNDIP understands that tangible actions are necessary, not only as part of social responsibility but also to shape students’ character as agents of change who care about the planet’s future. This aligns with UI GreenMetric and SDG 13 on Climate Action.

UI GreenMetric, known for ranking universities based on their high commitment to campus environmental management, serves as a key driver for FISIP UNDIP to continuously innovate in sustainability efforts. Through this tree planting activity, FISIP UNDIP aims to make a positive contribution to global endeavours in reducing carbon footprints and preserving the planet’s livelihood.
