Semarang – Central Java (21/11). The Rector of Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H, M.Hum. officially deployed the Undip Contingent Team which joined the Central Java Contingent at the XVIIth National Student Sports Week (POMNAS) 2022 on Friday (18/11) at the Rector’s Conference Room, Widya Puraya Building, Undip Tembalang Campus.

In his opening remarks, Undip Rector Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H, M.Hum. gave appreciation to the athletes, coaches, and team officials who would go to the XVIIth POMNAS in 2022. “I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation for the athletes, coaches and officials who devote their time and energy to accomplish outstanding achievements. This achievement is one way to maintain Undip’s reputation,” he said.

In addition, the achievement will be a great pride for the entire Undip academic community and alumni. “This has become undeniable that Undip in every ranking is always included in the ranks of renowned universities in Indonesia. Of course, this will make Undip alumni proud of your achievements,” explained Prof. Yos.

Prof. Yos encouraged all athletes who would fight in the XVIIth POMNAS in 2022 to uphold the spirit of chivalry and honesty. “You do not have to worry if you will win or lose, but one thing that is important from all these activities is how to foster a knightly spirit and an honest spirit in competition,” he said.

“This is what I always emphasise to my friends in pursuing rankings at Undip that honesty is above all. I don’t want to wear a fake crown,” added Prof Yos.

Furthermore, Prof Yos continued that the safety and health of athletes also need to be considered. “Hopefully you will be given safety and health there, and can return home with achievements,” he concluded.

Drs. Handojo Djoko Waloejo, M.Si. as Person In Charge (PIC) of the XVIIth POMNAS in 2022 Undip contingent, in his report said that the XVIIth POMNAS in 2022 was a national multi-event sports event at the university level which was held every 2 years in the odd year and was a representation and result of coaching student sports performance.

“The XVIIth POMNAS should be held in 2021, but because it coincided with the 20th Papua National Sports Week (PON), the XVIIth POMNAS is held in 2022,” Handojo explained.

Handojo added that the XVIIth POMNAS in 2022 would be held on November 17-26, 2022 at the Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) in Padang City, West Sumatra. “On this occasion, Undip sent its athletes for 3 branches of sport, namely 13 athletes in Karate, 1 athlete in Taekwondo, and 1 athlete in Shot Put Athletics,” he said.

According to Handojo, the athletes who were deployed to the XVIIth POMNAS in 2022 were the best athletes who had passed the selection at the Central Java POMPROV which was held on September 1-9, 2022.

“We are ready for the XVIIth POMNAS in 2022 and to compete in a sportive and knightly manner. Hopefully, Universitas Diponegoro athletes can bring home medals and proud achievements,” concluded Handojo.
