FISIP UNDIP Holds Focus Group Discussion: Drafting a Policy Brief on Empowering Batik Artisans to Realize a Green Industry in Pekalongan City

The Expertise Cluster (KBK), Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), successfully held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Drafting a Policy Brief for the Empowerment of Batik Artisans in Realizing a Green Industry in Pekalongan City. The event took place in the BPK Room, 2nd Floor of the BPKAD Building, Sriwijaya Street No. 44, Pekalongan. It was conducted in a hybrid format, both online and offline, on Friday, October 24, 2025.

The event was opened by Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin, Dean of FISIP Undip, who emphasized the importance of strategic steps in promoting the creation of a Green Industry climate in Pekalongan City. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Dra. Sri Suwitri, M.Si, as the Project Leader, highlighted that this activity is part of the series of drafting the Policy Brief related to Empowering Batik Artisans in Realizing a Green Industry in Pekalongan City. Therefore, the involvement of stakeholders is highly necessary in mapping the issues surrounding the implementation of this Green Industry initiative.

The event was moderated by Renata Jati Nirmala, S.IAN, MPA, and continued with facilitation by Johan Bhimo Sukoco, S.Sos, M.Si. The FGD also featured a guest speaker, Betty Dahfiani Dahlan, S.T., Head of the Office of Industry and Labor (Dinperinaker) of Pekalongan City. Betty Dahfiani Dahlan, S.T., emphasized the importance of developing strategies to realize a Green Industry in Pekalongan City, considering the large number of batik artisans and batik MSMEs in the city, making environmental sustainability an important concern. The event proceeded smoothly and was attended by participants from various sectors, including Bapperida Pekalongan City, the Office of Industry and Labor, the Office of Trade, Cooperatives, and MSMEs of Pekalongan City, as well as batik artisans.

This program was designed to support the Collaboration Program with the Business and Industrial Sector (DUDI), which is part of efforts to enhance the international reputation of Diponegoro University as a World Class University. It focuses on issues related to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This collaboration between academia and industry aims to create innovative research-based solutions to support sustainable development agendas, particularly in sectors relevant to the SDGs, especially climate action (SDG 13), industry, innovation, and infrastructure (SDG 9), and partnerships for the goals (SDG 17).
