Semarang (14/06) — In facing increasingly complex social and political dynamics, the importance of tolerance has become key to preventing the spread of radical ideologies in society. Cross-ideological understanding, acceptance of diversity, and awareness of national unity serve as the foundation for strengthening state ideology. Recognizing this urgency, the Department of International Relations at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Universitas Diponegoro held a National Seminar titled “Addressing the Challenges of Radicalization in Upholding State Ideology” on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the FIMENA FISIP Undip Auditorium in Tembalang.
The seminar featured several prominent figures as speakers, including the Vice Governor of Central Java, Taj Yasin Maimoen; the Head of the Counter-Ideology Sub-Directorate at the Directorate of Prevention of Densus 88 AT Polri, Police Commissioner Moh Dofir, S.Ag., S.H., M.H.; HTI Observer Dr. Rida Hesti Ratnasari, M.Si.; and Lecturer in International Relations at FISIP Undip, Nadia Farabi, S.Hub.Int., M.A., Ph.D. The event was officially opened by the Rector of Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., and attended by academicians and students from FISIP Undip.
In his opening remarks, the Dean of FISIP Undip, Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin., expressed his hope that the seminar would serve as a meaningful learning platform for students. “We hope that with today’s seminar, attended by key figures at the national and Central Java levels, there will be significant contributions to progress, especially for students currently seeking knowledge and ways to contribute to the nation,” he said.
The Rector of Undip, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., emphasized the importance of an open-minded attitude in understanding national realities. He noted that Indonesia’s extraordinary diversity is both a strength and a challenge. “We still have much homework to do. Our nation is highly diverse—this is an immense advantage, but it can also be a significant weakness,” he stated. Seminar participants were reminded to see the bigger picture of the nation—acknowledging its flaws while recognizing its remarkable strengths.
Central Java Vice Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen stressed the importance of intergroup tolerance in his presentation. “We must respect different thoughts, laws, regulations, and policies from outside our groups,” he said. He also outlined various efforts to counter radicalism in Central Java, including a deradicalization program for 351 former terrorism convicts. Through Presidential Regulation No. 7/2021 and Governor Regulation No. 35/2022, the Central Java Provincial Government has strengthened prevention efforts through entrepreneurship training, tolerance campaigns, and collaboration with BNPT (National Counterterrorism Agency). These efforts earned Central Java the RAN PE Award.
Dr. Rida Hesti Ratnasari, M.Si., explained that the threat of radicalism now directly targets the foundations of the state. She emphasized that radical movements often exploit social media to spread extremist ideologies. Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Moh Dofir, S.Ag., S.H., M.H., from Densus 88 AT Polri, revealed that throughout 2024, cyber patrols identified 184,416 problematic online contents, 66% of which contained intolerance, radicalism, or terrorism. He also highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration involving academics, communities, and the government to strengthen prevention efforts.
Meanwhile, Nadia Farabi, Ph.D., provided an academic perspective on radicalism as a reflection of unresolved social inequality and alienation. She underscored the importance of social justice, human security, and inclusivity in reinforcing state ideology. Nadia also encouraged students to actively participate in fostering healthy discussions, emphasizing that universities should be spaces for cultivating critical reasoning based on national values.
This National Seminar served as a crucial moment for Undip’s academic community, particularly FISIP students, to deepen their understanding of the ideological challenges facing the nation. Through cross-sector collaboration, interdisciplinary approaches, and the reinforcement of tolerance and diversity, it is hoped that a resilient young generation will emerge, committed to safeguarding the integrity of state ideology.
